Camp Killoqua, a non-profit residential Outdoor Education program in beautiful Stanwood, Washington, is looking for creative, enthusiastic Instructors for our fall season.
We offer 1-5 day residential programs as well as day trips for area schools.
Our OE curriculum focuses on forest, wildlife, and wetland ecology of the Pacific Northwest, teambuilding activities and outdoor recreation activities including climbing wall, canoeing, archery, outdoor living skills, and orienteering.
Our evening activities include night hikes, cooperative games, and campfires.
Our program has all the fun you expect from a summer camp, with lots of fun games and singing, as well as a more structured classroom style learning aspect.
Instructors are responsible for teaching all activities to a group of approximately 15 students, leading songs and evening programs, hosting meals, kitchen duties and some general maintenance of site and program.
All staff participate in a 7 day paid training covering all activities.
Staff training also includes time to develop, research, and personalize lesson plans.
Schools provide their own cabin counselors (No overnight responsibilities).
Staff typically work 5 days per week with most weekends off.
Our Fall 2023 season is September 13- October 20.
SPECIFIC DUTIES PERFORMED:
Staff work with OE groups teaching environmental ecology lessons and leading outdoor recreation activities.
Staff also helps with general camp operations.
Schools provide their own cabin counselors (No overnight responsibilities).
Staff work 5 days per week with most weekends off.
REQUIREMENTS:
Degree, or 2 years college and related experience.
Experience working with children in the out of doors, ability to be a positive role model to participants, ability to be creative on the go, have a positive and flexible attitude and strong work ethic.
Current CPR and First Aid certifications required.
Washington State Food Workers Card required (can obtain online).
Experience/certification belaying, or small craft safety is a plus.
SALARY &
Benefits:
$475-$500 DOE per 5 day work week plus full-time housing and full-time board, free laundry, internet access, fun co-workers, plus scheduled time off each day.
Weekends off to explore the beautiful Pacific Northwest.
